Snow Carbon

A more relaxing, low-carbon way of getting to the Alps from the UK! Snowcarbon is an independent website making it easier to find train routes, prices and information to ensure your ski holiday starts as soon as you leave the station! Come and see videos of some of the journeys and try the website in the presence of its creator to have your questions on train travel to the Alps answered!

Cham VanHaute TransferHaute Transfer

If you have to fly, how can you reduce your carbon footprint between Chamonix and Geneva Airport? By travelling on a shared transfer instead of taking your car!
The transfer companies are working together to make each journey constitute less emissions per passenger journey and take more cars off the road by running full vans, thereby also keeping costs low for the passengers.

SkiRail Map of the Alps

The SkiRail Map of the Alps, new for the 2011 season, is the first map to show how winter sports resorts across the Alps can be reached by train. With over 400 resorts shown, detailed information on the 120 with direct rail access, a booklet providing specific instructions on getting from the cities to resort stations and on to the pistes, and an additional map providing rail journey times from across Europe, the map packs a wealth of information for just 9 (10 Euros), with the local Chamonix-Montenvers train gracing the front cover.

Chevallier Architectes

How do you go about changing your home or even re-building it to become more in harmony with the environment? Local Architects Chevallier, who specialise in sustainable development will be on hand to answer your questions. They will run presentations to give you ideas and will bring along examples of improved insulation materials and other samples for you to see, touch and ask questions about.

Eco Rider ski school will be there to tell you about their "Bilan Carbone" (greenhouse gas emissions evaluation). Also about how their ski instructors uniforms are made from eco-friendly recycled textiles, their use of less polluting forms of transport and how their skis and boards are waxed with petrol-free materials (raw materials sourced in the Rhone Alpes region). They are determined to fight against global warming with a zero emission objective. They aim to:


Evaluate: The are the first ski school to carry out a "Bilan Carbone" (green house emission calculation)
Reduce: A plan of action to reduce emissions
Compensate: Believed to be the first ski school in the world to compensate by reforestation in Amazonia

Idris Skis

Idris Skis will be bringing their performance skis constructed from renewable and recycled materials including wood and hemp. Come see, touch and handle the skis, talk to the manufacturer and see photos of them in action!

Also check out their super cool furniture made from old skis that would otherwise have ended up in landfill! You can sit in the chairs and have a chat with Tom who has a wealth of information on the subject!

Idris Skis

Icicle is the first guiding company in Chamonix to hold either the 'Leave No Trace' or the 'UIAA Environment Label'. All their courses are designed along strict environmental guidelines, to maximise the use of public transport such as the train, and to teach all their clients how to minimise their impact in the mountains. As well as offering guided climbing and skiing courses, they also offer carbon neutral activities such as trekking and snowshoeing, for clients to learn about the way of life in the mountains.

Firetail is a consulting firm dedicated to helping NGOs and civil society organisations. They work with NGOs like Friends of the Earth, Green Alliance, Stop Climate Chaos and the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership to develop new strategies and campaigns. They also work with businesses to develop their environmental and corporate responsibility strategies.

Come to Eco Expo to hear the founder of the company talk about how environmental responsibility can be a real catalyst for better business if companies can view the low carbon economy as an opportunity rather than a threat.
